Brazil, Mexico and Perú were the first to use sugar cane scraps as a by-product. Creating biodegradable packaging is a sustainable mechanism that Colombia has been recently implementing.
The scraps or “bagazo” usage is a way of recycling, it is the shell left of sugar cane after the juice extraction. Another way this material is used is to keep the factories ovens hot. In some cases, the bagazo is just burned generating an added environment impact.
The way this by-product is made is by drying it and leaving small enough particles. This way it can be mixed with other materials properly.
It biodegrades in just 180 days and can be composted with regular organic waste.
It is a great alternative to petroleum made products, can reduce CO2 emissions in the process of raw sugar cane and it is an awesome eco friendly product.
